- Archaeologists have found five well preserved ships off the coast of Ventotene, between Rome and Naples. The ships date back to the 1st Century BC, and were carrying amphorae - the sort used for transporting wine, oil and fish sauce. The area where they were found was on a major route for trade between Rome and its North African territories.
