You have been ordered to Arabia Petraea by the new Emperor, the decidedly unpleasant Caesar Commodus. He has charged you with building the city of Bostra, which is to be the capital of that province. Trade will be the key to your success, but therein lies a major problem. Strange and lurid tales have been told of this place - of the mysterious artefacts floating in the pool, and why the land adjacent to it is so fertile - not to mention the unpleasant odor all around. Traders are (not surprisingly) reluctant to come to Bostra. But Commodus has ordered the governors of other provinces to send their traders here, regardless of their fears. Not wishing to directly go against Caesar's wishes, each governor is now busily thinking up excuses as to why they can't trade with you just yet. Commodus expects you, as governor of Bostra, to overcome these obstacles.

The anxiety of your citizens must also be allayed, for such a bizarre land is bound to make them feel a little edgy, and prone to random acts of destruction. Therefore, says Caesar Commodus, you must make your city the most beautiful the Empire has ever seen, for beauty will bring peace of mind to all. He has assigned a special beauty advisor (whom some claim to be a direct descendant of Caligula). Your task is to achieve at least the following: a beauty rating of 90, a population of 6700, 12 grand mansions, favor of 67, a city treasury of 67,000 denarii, and personal savings of 10,000 denarii. Good luck!

Arabian Bizarre was brought to you by the Axis of Daggy Evil (Hieronymus and Aramann).

aramann So... over 80 downloads and no comments?
I'll leave one! (Just for you Hiero...) This scenario is amazing! Anyone have any thoughts about it?
Elizabethus Enjoying it very much but....I can't improve on my Beauty Rating of 73! Have all the other requirements other than the 12 grand mansions. My beauty adviser keeps telling me to add more medium and small trees which I have done. Any clues?
aramann Try a very wide variety of many different things. And keep placing them and placing them, ad infinitim ad nauseum. Also, note that certain items detract from the beauty rating, some more so than others, such as factories, forts, etc.

Aramann is correct (as ever!) The beauty advisor tries to decide what decorative item your city is most short of, and tells you to place more of them. You do need a lot of small and medium trees to achieve the maximum. But if the beauty rating is at 73, then you will need a lot more of other types of item and building too. Don't forget small and large bushes, and small statues too. Evolving the patricians to grand mansion helps, as does having the largest governor residence.
Elizabethus Thank you for the advice. I'll keep trying. I am really enjoying the scenario and the challenge. Thanks again.
Elizabethus Exciting scenario. Success for me but I still don't know what the mysterious artefacts floating in the pool are!

Congratulations Elizabethus! Glad you enjoyed it! I've no idea what the artefacts are either. I discovered how to place them in the editor quite by accident, but aramann and I liked them so much that we decided to have three in the pool - seemed appropriate for a bizarre scenario...

slfoggy Anyone else get stuck, unable to build arenas, colliseums, or the circus, or any of the medium/large statues? I'm at a beauty rating of ~77 and can't get any further. I already have the largest governors house, and have maxed out all the religion, health, etc. buildings. But it still won't let me build any entertainment but Theaters and Odeums, so my villas are stagnant. Any ideas?

Beauty items and entertainment venues unlock as you open more trade routes (or, rather, they open them for you as you meet their requirements). Try raising your population to 4000+ and see what happens. If you haven't had Illyricum open yet it's worth while finding out what they want.
slfoggy Thanks for responding so quickly! I've got Illyricum open... actually, all of them are open except for Asia, and Achea. I can't seem to get culture up past 50 without more entertainment buildings. I'm at about 7000 population. I must be missing something really obvious, but I'm just stumped!
