Viminacium overview
This is a nice large map with a nice spread of resources. Don't let it fool you. Caesar is going to make a lot of demands and requests. Some of those requests/demands come quite early so prepare well at setup of the city.
Goals:
Culture 30
Security 30
Prosperity 50
Favor 55
Population 3000
Requests are for money (500dn), gold (50), jewelry, wood, utensils and some exotic goods (you don't need to fill the exotic requests to win). If you meet all the requests/demands for normal goods you will be successful.
To win this scenario, you will need to ship the requested furniture.
A warning - I build the ugliest cities in the known universe, but they work.
On opening the map put it on pause; this allows time to lay out and plan your start up city.
How I start the mission:
build 2 clay pits, 3 pottery factories, a warehouse for pottery, prefect and engineer. My first trade route will be with Dacia which will take up to 95 pottery a year. This will be a major source of funds for running this city.
The best place for me to build the city is close to the map entrance so I place the pump house, aqueduct and reservoir, check the water layout and mark the edges. The marking of the edges with a dot of road allows me to set up my farm areas.
Notice I still haven't placed a single house and am still on pause.
The housing will be placed at the top of map/farming area where water service is set up making sure to leave space for a wall.
For a city this size I build the following farms:
2 grain, 2 vegetable, 2 meat, 1 sheep (with warehouse for wool), 1 olive (with warehouse for olives)
Put an engineer and prefect in the middle so that you have complete coverage of your food producing area – you wouldn't want it to burn down.
Additional buildings put by the dense woods right across from your farming area:
3 gold mines and 2 warehouses for gold (you'll need those to meet Caesar's demands/requests)
3 jewelry factories and 2 warehouses (needed to meet Caesar's requests)
1 wood cutter and 1 warehouse
Prefect and engineer to protect those buildings
Now to the real fun part - building housing:
Build 18 pleb houses in a tight bunch 3 rows of 6 houses in each row.
A food market right up against the pleb block, 3 granaries right next to the market setting each to one type of food.
Additional buildings:
Prefect and engineer to protect your housing and granaries
Fountain, 2 barbers, clinic, hospital, tax collector, Odeum and last but not least a shrine to Jupiter (forget that at your own risk because he will make you pay)
Build 5 equite houses up close to the pleb block.
Now save while still on pause.
Unpause and wait for the housing to fill up. This should happen pretty fast since you built close to the entrance of the map. As soon as all your housing is filled, open your trade route with Dacia putting the trade depot right next to your pottery operation.
First request/demand 9bc for 500dn
September 9bc 50 gold
Start making clothing; put a warehouse for clothing and olive oil close to the housing since the shorter distance the market has to travel to get goods, the more stable your housing will be.
Feb 8bc request/demand 500dn
August 8bc request for amber (you don't need to worry about filling this one)
September 8bc timber 50
Add bathhouse and first 3 patrician houses as well as a theater.
February 7bc 30 utensils
March 7bc 500dn
Add another 3 patrician houses.
Time now to give your plebs clothing and open a trade port for Asia (put the port right next to your pottery operation). Sell jewelry to Asia
May 7bc raiders; buy off 3000dn. You might slip into debt but it will only be for a short time as your trade and tax will pull you out.
July 7bc amber
August 7bc spice (again you don't have to fill this one)
October 7bc 50 iron
Add 6 more patrician houses so you now have 12. Luxury goods furniture for equites.
February 6bc Furniture and spices (fill the furniture, skip the spices)
November 6bc buy off raiders 3000dn
4bc 500dn and buy off of raiders 3000dn
3bc 500dn
To hit the culture target you only need Odeum, 2 theaters (full coverage), full school coverage, full coverage for 1 god with shrines, 1 gladiator, 1 arena and forum.
To hit the prosperity target you need 3 exotic goods for 12 patricians and a wall around the city. |
