Where can I find the patch?

The 1.2 patch fixes gameplay and video issues, and allows players to load saves that were created in other language versions of the game. For the original retail boxed version. (13MB)

How can I disable the intro movies?

Using Windows Explorer, browse to Caesar IV’s Data\\Movies folder. By default it’s C:\\Program Files\\Sierra\\Caesar IV\\Data\\Movies\\. In that folder, there are 4 files starting with “splash”. Rename, move or delete all of them to disable the intro movies when you start up the game.

One good way to deal with them is create a new folder named “old”, and moving the splash files to that folder.

Can I run the game in windowed mode?

Yes, but it’s not supported by the developers and might give problems. Browse to the folder where you installed C4, which is C:\\Program Files\\Sierra\\Caesar IV by default. Open the CaesarIV.ini file in that folder with a text editor such as Notepad. Find the line that says “Full Screen Mode 1”. Change the 1 to a 0, save the file and start the game.

Edge scrolling with the mouse is disabled when you’re in windowed mode – you’ll have to use the A(left), S(down), W(up), and D(right) keys to move around the screen.
